Jack and the beanstalk

Our story was Jack and the beanstalk. We acted out the story.

We used the balance scales to weigh the food in the Giant’s kitchen.  Our challenge was to see if we could make the scales balance.  We used the vocabulary heavy and light.

Our next challenge was to sequence the numbered beanstalks from 0 to 20, we had to read the number on the beanstalk and put the correct amount of magic beans on the beanstalks.

Measuring.  Our next challenge was to look at the leaves.  We had to use cubes to measure them. Then we sequenced them from longest to shortest.

Making beanstalks – using wool and leaves we created our own beanstalks. To make this challenge harder we had to make the beanstalk 1 metre long.

Capacity

To practise learning the vocabulary full, empty, half full and half empty we made cups of tea for the giant.

Our final task was to make a castle for the giant and count how many pieces of construction we had used.
